The Truth About Holodomor

Current events or articles concerning any country’s facts or information regarding certain events that made it to the headlines in the past never fail to catch my attention. I find those things or topics interesting for many reasons. But I think I am not the only one who finds those topics interesting because we know for a fact that we learned a lot from it and we can also share what we’ve learned to those individuals who are seeking for information regarding those.

Like the holodomor truth that I’ve read just recently. I wasn’t aware of this event until I read it. Its strange name caught my attention while I was browsing which made me stopped and got hooked reading. Holodomor originally was called golodomor which was being referred to the “mass hunger” or “great hunger” that caused million of victims in the Soviet Union in 1932-1933. The Soviet famine affected vast agricultural areas of the county most especially those areas that produce grain. The term golodomor was then changed to holodomor to make it sound like “Holocaust.”

Want to read more about it? Feel free to visit Holodomor-Truth.org and read. And perhaps share it with your family and friends so they would know how lucky they can be for not being able to experience something like that.

What Do You Love About Your Husband

A tag from dear blogging buddies Madz and Umma. Bunch of thanks, ladies! Mwahugs!

My husband may not be here anymore to read these but he knew for a fact what are those qualities that i love about him. He may have left us two years ago but the memories of him are still with us and it will forever be. Things that i love about him are...

He is such a very patient person. I can be so mataray but he never gave up on me within our five years of being bf/gf.

He is so understanding to the point of spoiling me already. Whenever i have mood swings, he would crack a joke and tease me until my mood is good again.

He is such a good cook. I don't know how to cook and he was the one who taught me how. I can still remember those times that he would do the grocery and the cooking all in all. And i just have to wait for the food and eat. Hehe.

He is very hard-working. He can't stay still. He knows a lot about electronics so whenever he arrives home from work, he would make use of his extra time by tinkering damaged appliances, electronic gadgets, etc.

Lastly, with all those things that i've mentioned, maybe you already have an idea that he is such a LOVING person. He is...very...

Let me tag the following ladies so we would know the things that they love about their husbands too... Michelle, Prily, Mommy J, Nova, Jaja, Lisa, and Juliana.

First Aid Instruction For Accidents Caused By Electric Currents

Preliminary Precautions:

Switch off the line, or have it done by the power company. Then only remove the victim from contact with the electric conductor. If the line is alive, and the victim is being removed in spite of this fact, the rescuer is exposed to danger.

In such a case, adopt any of the following procedures.

In the case of low-voltage installations:
1) Insulate yourself from the ground by several layers of dry boards, beams, or wooden boxes.
2) Remove the line from the victim by means of long, dry, wooden sticks, dry ladders, etc.
3) Pull or push the victim away from the line while standing on insulating boards, etc.; wrap several layers of dry clothing around your hands; do not touch the victim except by his clothing.

In case of high-voltage installations:
1) Only experts should be permitted to remove the victim.
2) If the victim is hanging on the wires, spread straw, hay or bedding underneath.
3) Notify the power company and call the doctor.
4) Post a guard at the side of the accident.
5) After the victim has been removed from contact with the power line, start first of all with immediate attempts to restore his breathing:
--a) Place the unconscious person on his back, head to one side, with a pillow under his shoulders.
--b) Open his collar, scarf, belt, and tight clothing, etc.
--c) Carefully open the mouth of the patient, place some hard object, preferably a piece of wood, between his teeth, remove any dentures.
--d) Slowly but with sufficient strength pull out his tongue, using a handkerchief; let somebody hold it or tie it to the chin of the victim.
--e) Try to get him to breath spontaneously, by tickling his nose and throat.
--f) If no immediate success is achieved, start at once with artificial breathing. Kneel down behind the head of the victim, grasp his arms under the elbows, press them firmly against his chest and then draw them slowly apart in a circle over his head. After two seconds, bring the arms back to their initial position. Repeat the exercise at the rate of 16 to 20 times a minute, if necessary, for several hours, until the arrival of a doctor. More rapid movements are harmful and needlessly tiring. Stop the artificial respiration as soon as the victim starts breathing; activate the blood circulation by sprinkling his head and chest with cold water and rubbing hard. If the victim recovers, cover him up and let him sip warm drinks from a teaspoon as soon as he is able to swallow.
6) Leave any further aid to the doctor.

Tired!

Just finished sorting every single file here in the office and i'm really tired. Files include those from way back 2002. Try to imagine that. If you happen to see our office, it looks like a match needs it. Meaning, it looks like it's one heck of a big big trash can.

Now, i'm having back aches from too much sitting and i'm having sniffles too from inhaling all the dust there is. Sigh! I was supposed to cover my nose with a hanky but laziness got into me. I was already sitting then and i'm lazy to get up and get a hanky in the bedroom. So now i have no right to whine about this sniffles because i was the one who didn't take precautionary measures before hand, huh? Oh well, whatever!

My Friends' Trusted Diet Pills

I’ve always been skinny and some of my friends who belong to the “plus size” group envy me because of it. I don’t have to go on a diet regimen unlike them who have tried almost all kinds of losing weight regimen there is - from drink formulas to diet pills. Name it, they have tried it all. But they have always been careful when it comes to taking diet pills since their health is also at stake. They always make sure that what they’ve got are not only Safe Diet Pills but effective as well like those from Lab88 which were proven to possess those. They’ve always trusted Lab88 from the start and they were never wrong.

Happy Chinese New Year!

I was doing my usual blogging stuff last night when i heard the sound of fireworks from our neighbor. I was wondering for a while why they were having those fireworks only to find out eventually that they were celebrating the Chinese New Year's Eve. We have Chinese neighbors here and they never missed to have fireworks display during the New Year. It started as early as 6 o'clock in the evening until midnight. When i was already in bed by 9 o'clock, they still have the fireworks non-stop. I even doubt if i can have a sound sleep because of it but fortunately, i did.

Happy Chinese New Year to all and have a prosperous year of the Ox to each and everyone!

A Much Awaited Homecoming

My cousin arrived from Manila last Saturday. The last time we saw him was during his wedding in 2004. We haven’t seen him for about four years already so Mom decided to have a little gathering in celebration of his homecoming. We spent the whole day at the beach yesterday and enjoyed the food as much as the chitchat. We had a lot of catching up to do with my cousin so we talked like there’s no tomorrow.

My cousin brought his family with him and his 4-year-old daughter whom I’ve only seen for the first time. He also brought two beautiful area rugs as belated Christmas gifts for mom. The rugs are really nice. They are the braided type and I really like how they were uniquely and creatively done. Mom was overjoyed upon seeing the rugs and never hesitated to give my cousin a big hug.

He’ll be leaving for Manila on Wednesday and I wonder when we’re going to see him again. Only time will tell.

Cramp-Fighting Tips

One of the many problems that hit women is the cramp during monthly periods. The pain is tolerable though but the discomfort that it gives us women can be annoying which gives us mood swings and all. But some women claim that the cramps they get are really painful. If you are of of them, read the tips below 'cause it might be of great help to you.

Take meds asap.
Over-the-counter painkillers with ibuprofen or mefenamic acid are most effective when you pop them at the first twinge of discomfort (or, if you know when your period's due, you can take them the day before). They stop the production of hormones called prostaglandins, which cause the cramps.

Work up a sweat. Sustained heart-pumping exercise - 1 20-minute jog or brisk walk, for example - increases blood flow and prompts natural pain blockers called endorphins to circulate through your bloodstream.

Soak in a hot tub. Heat relaxes all the muscles in your body, including those in your uterus, so they're less likely to tense up. A heating pad or even a hot shower also will also do the trick.

Get frisky. Experts believe that sexual stimulation curbs cramps because it triggers an endorphin rush.

Bruising Easily

There were times that i've discovered a bruise or bruises in my legs or arms without me knowing if i hit that part somewhere or not. But i've figured that certain things could have caused those bruises. Here's what i've got.

In young women, this is often the result of taking such painkillers as aspirin or ibuprofen, which work by thinning blood and making blood vessels break without much pressure. "This causes blood to pool under the skin, which is all a bruise is." Since bruising isn't a problem in itself, there's no need to go off the pain meds.

It could also mean that you're pounding back too much alcohol, which in large amounts - we're talking overimbibing regularly, not occasionally - affects your bod's ability to clot blood.

Doing Good With Blood

During my husband's two years of treatment, he had undergone blood transfusions for several months and during those times, i couldn't thank enough those who donated blood for him. There were times that looking for donors was really hard but gladly, we were able to surpassed those times and was able to look for people who are willing to help without asking for anything in return.

Donating blood is saving lives and here's the basic info and the benefits about blood donation.
1) You'll save lives. You can only donate blood if you're at least 18 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds. Your blood pressure (BP) must be between 90-160/60-100. So, if your BP is 110/70, then you're good to go. Your healthy blood will save a lot of lives during medical emergencies and natural disasters.

2) You'll get checked. The screening process you undergo before you donate blood also serves as your free personal health check-up, as medical professionals will find out your blood type and make sure you're not suffering from anemia or other ailments.

3) You'll have new cells. When you donate blood, your bone marrow will be stimulated to produce new and active cells which, in turn, make your blood-forming organs function more effectively.

My Ideal Vacation

After a hard day’s work, taking a time off is what usually comes to mind. We all need a breather and a vacation somewhere is simply the best thing to consider. My ideal vacation would be in a place that offers awesome views, peaceful surroundings and many things to do that spells FUN. And I’ve just discovered that all those things can be found in Branson Missouri.

They have theme parks which individuals of all ages would certainly find fun and exciting. Museums, golf courses, shopping centers, rides, etc. – they have it all. Branson is also known for offering one-of-a-kind entertainment. I love watching live concerts or musical shows so I know this is simply the right place for me to go. One more thing, lodging is definitely not a problem since they have several hotels and inns that offer excellent service, superb food and great amenities. You can even have a bedroom overlooking the Table Rock Lake and enjoy the luxury that it offers. Hmmm, how I wish I can have my vacation booked the soonest because I really can’t wait to experience all those.

Automobile Seat Restraints

Wearing seat belts saves lives and prevents injuries. No one is strong enough to brace themselves against a sudden impact in a motor vehicle, even at very low speeds. Seat belts reduce the risk of serious injury and death.

- Wear your seat belt every time you are in a vehicle. Always use both the lap and shoulder belts. Position the lap belt low over your hip bones and the shoulder belt over your shoulder and across you chest (never under your arm or behind your back). Pregnant women should position the lap belt below the developing baby.

- Seat belts are necessary even if your car is equipped with air bags. Air bags inflate from the steering wheel or dashboard of your car in the event of sudden impact. They are very effective in protecting front-seat riders, but they must be used with seat belts. Infants in car seats and children and adults under 142 cm (4 feet 8 inches) in height should not sit in front of an air bag.

- Children younger than 12 years of age should sit in the back seat. Use child car seats for infants, children under 4, and those weighing less than 18 kg (40 lb).

Sweet Potato

We could have it fried or boiled but we chose to have it boiled this time since we always have it fried almost all of the time. We never run out of sweet potato every week. Whenever the vegetable vendor passes by, Mom never fails to buy a pack or two packs of it. I've researched about the benefits of having potatoes in our diet and here's what i've got.

Sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) is in the botanical family Convolvulaceae along with common plants, such as bindweed and morning glory. The generic name Ipomoea comes from the Greek words "ips," meaning bindweed, and "homoios," meaning similar. Sweet potatoes should not be confused with ordinary potatoes (Solanum tuberosum) as they are entirely unrelated, although their uses can be similar. Orange-fleshed sweet potatoes are often known as yams, especially in the southern United States, but they are quite different from true yams (Dioscorea sp.) in growth habit and use. Furthermore, unlike true yams, the greens of sweet potatoes are edible and provide an important source of food in Africa and Asia.

The flesh may be white, yellow, or pink (if carotene is present); the leaves are also edible. A 200-g portion is a rich source of vitamins A (as carotene if pink) and C; a source of iron and vitamin B1; provides 4.5 g of dietary fibre; contains 0.4 g of fat, of which 16% is saturated; supplies 170 kcal (700 kJ).

How To Remove Objects In The Ear

Children sometimes put small objects in their ears, or an insect may crawl into the ear. It may be hard to know if an insect is in the ear. Your child may say, "My ear is bumping around."

* Don't try to kill an insect inside a person's ear. Pull the ear up and back and point it toward the sun or a bright light. Insects are attracted to light, so the insect may crawl out.

* If the insect doesn't crawl out, fill the ear canal with mineral, olive, or baby oil. The insect may float out.

* To remove other objects from the ear, tilt the person's head to the side and shake it gently. Gently pulling the ear up and back may straighten the ear canal and help dislodge the object.

* If the object is soft and can be easily seen, try carefully to remove it with tweezers. Do not try this if the person will not hold very still or if the object is in the ear so far that you can't see the tips of the tweezers. Use care not to push the object in farther.

Call a health professional if you cannot remove the insect or object.

How To Strengthen Your Marriage

1) Do establish mental boundaries. Protect your thought life because thoughts lead to actions. Be careful what you watch on TV, the Internet, and on DVDs. Avoid porn at all costs and decide ahead of time that you're going to avoid all flirtatious encounters with members of the opposite sex at work or in any other setting.

2) Do make your relationship as romantic as lovers a priority. As important as your children's needs are, don't lose each other in the process of parenting. Learning how to give and receive love is a worthwhile investment of time and energy.

3) Do make yourself available to your spouse. Many affairs are rooted in neglect. If you are always too tired, preoccupied with work, out with friends, or just absent emotionally from the relationship, your spouse may wander into the arms of someone who will listen and will show an interest in his or her problems.

4) Do the things you did at first when your love for each other was hot and new. Go out on a date. Walk in the moonlight. Get a sitter and enjoy a meal by candlelight. Give some undivided attention to each other and watch the magic return.

5) Do pray together. There is probably no greater force for good in a marriage than a husband and wife kneeling together before God and praying with and for each other. You'll find it difficult, if not impossible, to remain angry or carry a grudge against someone you're praying for.

If You Have It, Then Flaunt It!

Aside from long pants and shorts, mini skirt is one of my favorite get-ups whenever I go malling or whenever I visit friends. I just feel comfortable wearing one. I know I am not the only who prefers this kind of get up. I always see girls or women wearing sexy mini skirts not just in malls but in other places as well like restaurants, coffee shops, etc. I don’t see anything wrong with wearing one. If you have nice legs then why don’t you show it? As the famous cliché goes, if you have it, then flaunt it!

I remember my male friend who told me once that those women in mini skirts make him drool. He is really funny but I know he was kind of serious then. I know men always like watching women in sexy outfits such as mini skirts and the like. Even my brother can’t take his eyes off those women. I know that because I caught him staring at those women clad in sexy mini skirts or sometimes shorts many times. Well, what can I say? Women in sexy outfits never fail to fascinate men. But I do believe that you don’t really have to wear provoking outfits to be sexy. Being sexy is being confident. Agree?

Sodium is the Culprit

There are several reasons why we develop high blood pressure. But sodium (one component of salt) is considered the key culprit. Member of salt-free tribal societies around the world have almost a zero risk of dying from high blood pressure. Chimpanzees eating nothing but fruit and vegetable develop high blood pressure when salt is added, and only when this occurs.

While blood pressure rises faster in some people and slower in others, it still rises, especially as you consume more sodium. The good news is that you can prevent this rise and even manage hypertension without medication by controlling your salt intake.

Many people who don't add salt to their cooking or use a salt shaker believe they are following a low-salt diet, but research shows that up to 80 percent of the sodium you eat comes hidden in processed foods, including common staples such as bread, cheese, and cereals.

Cutting down on salt is healthy for the whole family. Having the amount of salt children eat results in an almost immediate fall in their blood pressure and lessens the subsequent rise in their blood pressure with age.

Reducing sodium intake is particularly important if your are overweight, an older person, or already have high blood pressure.

Hints for a low-sodium diet:
1) Eat mostly fresh foods, and eat them without any added salt.
2) Buy only those processed foods that contain less than 120 mg sodium per 100 g of product. Check food labels.
3) Look for "Low Sodium," "Low Salt," or "No Added Salt." "Reduced Salt" products are required to contain only 25 percent less sodium, so the final level may still be very high.

I don’t eavesdrop but they have voices that are loud enough to be heard all over the house. I can really tell how interesting cars are for them from what I’ve heard. They talked about luxury cars, racing cars and its performance parts, and more. They would even end up debating at times which I really find amusing. Well, it’s always been like that and I’m already used to it.

Preparing For Potluck Parties

When preparing for potluck parties, you may want to follow these simple guidelines to make sure things go smoothly.

1) Pick a date for the party. It is best to schedule the party two weeks in advance. A Friday or a Saturday is an ideal day for a potluck party.

2) Plan the menu. Make sure the host assigns what course the guests will bring. Here are few things the host might want to consider assigning: salad, appetizer, side dish, main course, dessert, beverages and other items such as extra chairs, glasses, utensils, plates, etc.

3) Keep a list of what each guest is bringing to make sure no one brings the same dish and that the dishes complement each other. You don't want to risk the chance that all your guests will bring only desserts!

4) Remind your guests about the party a week ahead of time. If you have cancellations, you will have enough time to invite others. On the party day, the host should prepare extra serving platters. Not everyone brings food ready to be served.

5) Ensure tables are able to seat all your guests. The host may also opt to decorate his/her home to create a festive and cheerful mood for the party.

6) Most importantly, enjoy the party! Appreciate the food that everyone has brought. Mingle with your friends, old and new, and have a good time.

All About Televisions

Television is considered to be the greatest source of information with regards to just about anything. Present in almost every household in the whole world, its influence to people especially to the young ones are considered the strongest that is why TV shows’ quality should really be given importance for the benefit, not just of the younger generation but all the viewers as a whole.

Televisions, as we all know, have greatly evolved. I can still remember our old television set during my younger days. It has a black and white screen but it didn’t hinder us from enjoying every single show that we like. But with the high technology at present, televisions are becoming more and more advanced by the year - offering the latest innovation and highest quality to give the people a more pleasurable viewing time and enjoy the shows that they prefer. And the latest TV sets to hit the stores are the LCD TVs and HDTVs. Given enough amount to purchase one, I could have gotten one the soonest. The latest television sets may cost a bit much but what’s good with it is there are stores who offer savings and discounts in purchasing one. You just have to be resourceful in searching for the right deal that would fit your budget best.

Goin' Bananas

I still don't have that much appetite because i've been sick since yesterday. My taste buds tastes bitter like anyone, i guess, whenever they have fever though it already subsided. But when Mom had the bananas boiled, i got the appetite all of a sudden. They are ripe which i like best because of the sweetness. I've already eaten five pieces and i'm still craving for more though my cough is not cooperating with me. But anyways, it can't stop me from eating more bananas. Haha. Let me get some more. Want some? (",)

Boost Your Self-Confidence

Before, undergoing a cosmetic surgery is a big deal for some. But nowadays, it is not something new anymore and has been the choice of many especially the rich and famous when it comes to enhancing body parts which would definitely lead to boosting their self-esteems.

One popular surgery that is popular among women is the breast augmentation. I have nothing against this kind of medical procedure and I would probably get one if needed. I actually have few friends who have undergone the said procedure. I do believe it is safe given the trusted company you are going to entrust your body with. One company who has been known to give quality and safe surgery is MYA Cosmetic Surgery. They already have established a name of their own for providing quality and safe cosmetic surgery which include the MYA breast enlargement. Aside from that, they also offer Liposuction, Breast Reduction, Body Reshaping and more.

There are a few factors to consider when undergoing any cosmetic surgery. Your safety is among them so you should be careful in choosing the right one who would do it for you. You will never go wrong with MYA because they’ve already proven their quality of work. Want to learn more? Check the site and see what else they’ve got.

Pancakes

I so love pancakes especially those from Jollibee. Being a person who loves sweets, i like it more when topped with butter or honey. My son Yogi loves pancakes too. We used to make this easy-to-cook pancakes that can be bought from the supermarket. Mom always gets one whenever she goes for groceries before. I wonder why she doesn't do it now.

Anyways, here's a quick dessert that you can serve anytime that i found in a magazine.

When you cook pancakes, make more than you need and freeze the extra. When you need a sweet treat, just thaw the frozen pancakes, fold into half moons, and fill with canned fruits. Heat pancakes in your oven, microwave, or over toaster until the stuffing is bubbling, then serve. Sounds yummy, huh?

Good News for the New Year!

I am not always the first to know whenever Mr. G gives any of my blog this so-called gift any blogger aspires for. I'm talking about the PR. When i had my PR in my other blog, it was my friend Mabelle who informed me first. It was gone for weeks and when it came back, it was Nova who informed me about it. I was totally clueless. And this time around, it was Ate Norm who told me that this domain of mine got one. The news really made me ecstatic. Well, who wouldn't? I just had this domain for more than two months only yet it was already given PR. It's not that high though but just the same, i'm still very much thankful 'cause not everyone is given such.

Thank you very much, Mr. G. This is such a good news to start my year. It's a happy new year for me indeed! (",)
