Old Runners Pick Up Speed

All the while i thought the younger ones does better in marathon than the older ones but i was wrong. This article changed my perception. Thought it's already late for the seniors ( i think it's better to call them that) to put themselves through the paces. Well, i was wrong. Ponder on the article below.

If you've been falling back on your ages to avoid taking up serious exercise, such as marathon running, you will need to find another excuse. Scientists have found runners over 50, particularly women, actually improve their performance at a greater rate than younger ones.

The team looked at the results for competitors in a marathon over 16 years and found that women runners aged between 50 to 59 shaved an average of 2.08 minutes off their times each year. By comparison, the men improved only eight seconds a year, though they showed gains up to the age of 79. Yet men and women aged from 20 to 30 did not generally improve at all.

Home Alone

I've been here in front of the pc since this morning. The only time that i left was during lunch and whenever there is a need to go to the john. I'm left home alone because my folks are in the big city and the kids were at the neighbors, playing. So what else should i do but tinker the net. I'm actually tired now. I haven't even taken a catnap. It is so quiet here. Well, i prefer silence now though. I'm not in the mood to listen to music, maybe later.

Conflict Resolutions

Growing up, I've often heard adults saying that parents should not argue in front of their kids. Some would say that this would affect the child's emotions and would even create trauma. But recently, i came across this article that really caught me by surprise. Arguing in front of the kids could have positive effects afterall. Read.

Reasons why you should argue in front of the kids:

1) Constructive arguing allows you to model respectful disagreement. When respect is present, there is no put-downs.

2) Children see conflict resolution in action. Parents don't have to pretend that they are always in agreement as long as they resolve differences constructively.

3) Conflict spotlights individuality. It's important for kids to understand that Mom and Dad have their own ideas and views.

4) Kids need to see that emotions are part of life. They need to know how to handle a range of emotions.

Acupuncture

I've first heard of acupuncture during my first year in nursing. But i didn't push through with that course due to some problems. Oh well, that's another story.

Anyways, I have seen people undergo this kind of treatment but only on TV, even Korina Sanchez. I am afraid of needles and I just can't stand watching them with those needles. But i know how acupuncture works. It was proven and tested to cure certain illnesses or health problems. As I've read in my fave mag, most of us actually wouldn't volunteer for even more needles when in hospital, but a new study has found that acupuncture is just as effective as anti-sickness drugs in preventing nausea and vomiting after surgery.

Without treatment, four out of five people who have had an anesthetic suffer from nausea and vomiting after going under the knife. The study done in a university in Hong Kong and Sydney, found that stimulating the pericardium, or P6, acupuncture point in the wrist was just as effective as common anti-sickness drugs. Better yet, it is cheap, safe, has a fewer side effects and doesn't taste bad.

This blog was supposed to be about food. I just added health and fitness for this to have at least a few more categories because i've figured recently that this kind of theme could have a limited income since it only deals with food. But i don't think my review of those glasses would affect this blog's theme. I think i just have to add more categories here so i won't mess up the next time i'll accept reviews not related to this blog and all.

Snack Time!

Been here in front of the pc for like four hours now. Felt my stomach grumbling since an hour ago i guess but i didn't mind it until now. I'm super dooper hungry and thirsty. So i checked the fridge and found wheat bread and mayonnaise. Picked up two slices of bread and put a little mayonnaise then paired with a glass of cold water and that's it. Problem solved!

Simple as it is!

Had a changed of heart again. I'm trying to make this look as simple as possible yet nice. As they say, simplicity is beauty. I think this looks better than the previous one. Besides, blue is my favorite color. So here it is.

Food Trip

I, together with my four other friends visited our friend the other day. All we did the whole day was, chitchat, eat, chitchat, eat and so on. It was a day of food trip. We ate almost everything that's in the fridge. That's how we manage our day whenever we have this get together. You know, girl thing. And at the end of the day, it still seemed like it's not enough. That we still have a lot of things to talk about, discuss, argue, etc., whatever you call it. I know you girls can relate to this.

Chocolate Galore

I've watched GMA 7's Unang Hirit the other day and they've featured chocolates for Valentine's Day. There was a wide variety of chocolates like chocolate fountain, heart-shaped chocolate bars, heart-shaped cakes, etc. Some of them looks like the picture above which i just got from the web. As usual, most of them if not all were wrapped in red wrappers and decorated with red ribbons. Well, what else do we expect? It's Valentine's so hearts and reds are everywhere. I've got my eyes focused on the chocolate fountain that really looks yummy and inviting. There's nothing sweeter than receiving chocolates on Valentine's Day.

Soda

I'm not at all a softdrink person. I usually have them during parties or sometimes, when i'm only with my friends. Met my colleagues earlier and while we were in the middle of our discussion, a peanut vendor passed by. It's nice to munch on something while discussing so we bought three packs of fried peanuts. And when you have peanuts, you can't think of anything else to pair it best but with an iced cold soda. It's my first bottle of soda for the week, so i don't see any problem with that. Soda is high in sugar content so it's really not good to indulge in it.

What's Cooking?

It's been a while that i set my foot in the kitchen. Blogging has taken most of my time. It doesn't mean though that i had plenty of opps. I just can't help it. Always got myself glued in front of the pc from the time i set my fingers on it. But today, there were some changes. My son watched Transformers in the pc so while i can't do my stuff, i looked for something to keep myself busy. Went to the kitchen and found our household help preparing the ingredients for the dish that she is going to cook. She was supposed to do another dish but i insisted on my menu. I did the cooking this time. I cooked "pork puchero" without the potatoes. Can u still call that puchero? Hehe. Whatever...(",)

Sunny Side-Up

Woke up craving for one of my favorite breakfast meals...sunny side-up! I've always preferred the egg cooked this way than scrambled or hard boiled especially when it's paired with beef tapa or lechon kawali. Yummy! But all we've got now are eggs so i'll have beef tapa and lechon kawali perhaps in the few days, hopefully. I'll grab breakfast in a while. Can't wait.
