When to Say No to Your Kids

I've always been very vocal with my son when it comes to his requests. I'm not the type who give everything that he wanted. But there are times that he won't stop until you grant his request. And just to stop him from whining, I have no choice but to give in. So far, he only asks for coins to buy some candies in the nearby store. Well, you know kids. They can't last a day without munching on candies. But when it comes to toys, more often than not, I tell him that he'll get one if I already have the money and he would listen. I don't want him to grow up spoiled.

Here are some advices from experts on how to keep your child from developing the "Gimmies" (from give me) - or cure him if if they've already set in.

1) Teach kids not to rely on TV, computers and toys.

2) Don't buy goodies for your kids every time you go shopping.

3) Explain that money is a consideration.

4) If you reject a child's request, keep your explanation simple.

5) Once you say no, stick to it.

Our job as parents is to help our children decide what's worth getting and then show them the right way to go about it. The lesson they'll learn is that getting takes more effort than saying, "Gimme".
